Struggling with Emotions

Pain is part of the human experience. When we don't get what we want (a job or perfect relationship) or when we get what we don't want (sickness, the loss of friends or family) we naturally feel pain.

Emotional pain commonly leads to two problems. We often battle with our painful thought or emotion, trying to counter them with positive thinking techniques. Alternatively we spend our energy finding ways to avoid anything that might remind us of the difficult feelings. What does your experience tell you about the long term success of these methods?
