What you can expect
Our first session together
At our first meeting we'll discuss what brought you to counselling and what you might like to get from our meetings. We'll also talk about the practical issues of timing, payment and confidentiality.
Life seldom runs to plan. We can work together so our counselling sessions are dynamic and constantly evolving to ensure that you're getting what you need from our time together.
What sort of counselling is it?
I use a person-centred approach to counselling and utilise techniques from the narrative, cognitive, existential, behavioural schools of therapy. The key to deciding how we work together is working out what will work best for you. We might find that, as particular issues and situations arise, some methods will be more effective for you than others.
The more you feel comfortable sharing, the more opportunities there are for change. However, trust can be a delicate thing for many people. There may be days when you feel like sharing a lot about yourself and other times when you'd rather distance yourself from bigger issues. We'll keep checking in with each other to get just the right balance between challenge, change and comfort.
Confidentiality
In our first appointment, before you share your personal details of your life, we'll come to an agreement about confidentiality.
Funding for counselling
For some people, depending on their circumstances, counselling can be funded by WINZ. I have application forms for the Disability allowance which we can fill out together. Filling out a form which direct credits the Disability Allowance into counselling takes the hastle out of needing to set money aside for your counselling appointments.
